The Town of Chapel Hill has earned the 2025 Great Place for Public Art Award from the American Planning Association – North Carolina Chapter (APA-NC) for its Art + Transit program.

The APA-NC Awards Program recognizes the places, people, and projects that represent the highest standards of achievement in the North Carolina Planning Community.

Great Place for Public Art Awards are given to those who value a community’s creative side, whether it’s a mural-filled downtown, a sculpture park, or artistic bus stops.

Since 2018, Chapel Hill’s Art + Transit program has brought art to the daily commute by adding installations to local buses and bus shelters.

The Art + Transit program is a collaboration between Chapel Hill Community Arts & Culture and Chapel Hill Transit.
