• Overview

  A Selection Committee of 3-to-5 Town of Chapel Hill and Carrboro employees, reviews and scores all applicants for the 2026 Chapel Hill-Carrboro Juneteenth Celebration using the criteria below. We invite only the highest scoring applicants to participate. Our events are highly competitive with an average acceptance rate of 20%.

  The Towns of Chapel Hill and Carrboro reserve the right to deny applicants based on past interactions, compliance history, or other factors the Town determines to be in its best interest. Additionally, if a selected applicant does not attend the event or cancels within two weeks of the event for a preventable reason, the Towns will not consider that applicant for other events for the rest of that calendar year and the entire following calendar year.

  Community Arts & Culture does not discriminate on the basis of race, color, national origin, religion, sex, gender identity, disability, or any other protected class. Demographic information and historic affiliations will not be considered in our selection processes. Instead, we consider the thematic relevance of the goods and booth setup of each vendor.

  Are all selection processes evaluated by the same Selection Committee?

  No. Each Community Arts & Culture event has its own Selection Committee. Being selected for one event does not guarantee selection for another. Applicant pools and committee members may change from year to year.

  What parts of the application are most important?

  The most important parts of the application are the description of your goods, the photo of your goods, the photo of your booth setup, and how well your application fits the event theme. We strongly encourage vendors to submit clear, visually appealing photos that show the quality of your goods and booth display.

  Do Chapel Hill and Carrboro accept incomplete applications?

  No. We do not review incomplete applications.

  Do Chapel Hill and Carrboro provide feedback on applications?

  No. We receive a high volume of applications and cannot provide individual feedback. We may make limited exceptions for collectives that represent multiple vendors.

  Do Chapel Hill and Carrboro consider locality?

  Yes. We include locality and distance from Chapel Hill and Carrboro as a scoring category to support local economic development and reduce transportation-related environmental impacts.

  How do Chapel Hill and Carrboro address tied scores?

  If tied scores affect selection, the Selection Committee may consider additional factors including variety of goods, price points, logistical constraints, and overall fit for the event.

  How do Chapel Hill and Carrboro prevent conflicts of interest?

  Selection Committee members do not score applications if they have a personal or financial interest in that vendor.

  What accessibility requirements do applicants need to meet?

  All vendors must ensure their booth setup complies with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) and local accessibility requirements. This includes maintaining clear, unobstructed pathways and providing reasonable accommodation for individuals with disabilities.

  How much does it cost to apply and participate?

  There are no fees to apply or participate.

  Do vendors need to provide their own equipment?

  Yes. Selected vendors and nonprofits must bring all necessary materials including tents, tent weights, tables, chairs, and power sources.
