Chapel Hill’s beloved outdoor movie series is back for the first time since the COVID-19 pandemic. Movies Under The Stars will take place on three evenings this summer at its new location, The Forest Theatre. The community is encouraged to come together for family-friendly sing-along films on Thursday evenings; July 29, August 5, and August 12.

Led by Chapel Hill Community Arts & Culture, along with UNC Arts Everywhere, Movies Under The Stars will provide simple programming for the Chapel Hill community after a long hiatus of festivals and events. A hidden treasure on UNC’s campus, The Forest Theatre has always been a space that facilitates and celebrates creativity — making it an ideal location for the big screen.

Movies will begin promptly at sundown, which will vary between 8–8:30 p.m., and guests can arrive early to enjoy the space and grab a seat.

All movies are Disney/Pixar musical favorites and rated PG for all audiences:

Here are some things to note to make Movies Under The Stars most enjoyable:

  • For comfortable seating, bring a cushion or blanket. No folding chairs, please.
  • No food or drink will be available on-site. Bring your own water, please.
  • The closest parking is available at the Cobb Parking Deck and the Park Place lot. Free parking is available after 6 p.m. on West Franklin Street (past Columbia Street). Learn more at parkonthehill.com.
