The Town of Chapel Hill’s Community Arts & Culture Division is bringing the community together for its annual Thanks + Giving Food Truck Rodeo and Nonprofit Showcase. This event will include a variety of food trucks and free activities hosted by local nonprofit organizations. Thanks + Giving will take place on Sunday, Nov. 12 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at 1714 Legion Road in Chapel Hill.
The food truck rodeo will feature a diverse collection of cuisines, including sandwiches, tacos, quesadillas, burgers, seafood, and popsicles. Attendees can expect food trucks such as Tacos Costa Grande, Don Meow Burgers, Stick Happens, The Jones BBQ, and more.
The nonprofit showcase will highlight more than 15 local nonprofits that are making an impact on our community in areas including disability justice, affordable housing, and mental health. Attendees can expect to engage with Hope Renovations, Meals on Wheel, Habitat for Humanity, B3 Coffee, and many others.
Inter-Faith Council for Social Service (IFC) and PORCH will once again join the event as anchor organizations. Both organizations will be collecting items for the event’s food and toiletry drive. Attendees are encouraged to bring canned goods, non-perishable food items, and common toiletries. A full list of items that will be accepted can be found on the event webpage.
This is the third year that IFC will anchor the event. IFC Development and Communications Director Jennifer Gill says, “We can’t wait to kick off this season of gratitude and generosity with delicious food and fellowship. For more than 60 years, IFC has been a beacon of hope during challenging times. Community donations ensure that we can continue to do so this holiday season.”
The Community Arts & Culture team is excited to welcome the community back to this event, inspired by the season of eating and giving. “Thanks + Giving is one of our most meaningful and impactful events of the year, and our team is incredibly proud to be working with so many local nonprofit organizations,” says Special Events Coordinator Xavi Vallejo.
Thanks + Giving will take the form of a community picnic, complete with yard games and a DJ. Attendees should plan to bring chairs and blankets to spread out on the lawn. Plenty of parking is available at Legion Road, but alternate forms of transportation are always encouraged. Please consider biking to the event or using Chapel Hill Transit.
