Meet the Kalam
A rare opportunity to learn directly from a master artist! Leela Foundation is honored to welcome renowned Kalamkari artist A. Thilak Reddy from Andhra Pradesh for an immersive series of talks and workshops in the RTP area.
The word “Kalam” means pen, and it’s the traditional hand-crafted tool used to draw the intricate lines that define Kalamkari art.
About the Artist Talk
Explore the rich traditions of Kalamkari, natural dyes, storytelling through art, and the techniques that have been passed down through generations.
During this artist talk at Chapel Hill Public Library, you’ll learn about the artist’s work as well as the tools and dyes that he uses (traditionally and his own innovations). The program will include a PowerPoint presentation of the process and a demonstration of how the tools are used.
