Our beloved Festifall is back with a twist. New this year, each Festifall Arts Market will have its own theme. Join us on November 2 for a street market featuring artisan vendors, music, performances, and more that celebrate Día de los Muertos. This event is dedicated to uplifting the Latino/a/e communities of Chapel Hill and the Triangle area.
Día de los Muertos (Day of the Dead) is a long-standing tradition in Mexico and other parts of Latin America that was popularized in the US by the Chicano Movement in the 1970s and 1980s. Far from a spooky or scary holiday, Día de los Muertos is dedicated to remembering and honoring the lives of deceased loved ones and often celebrated with humor, positivity, and respect. We encourage everyone to join in the festivities and learn about Día de los Muertos. Read more about this holiday from the University of New Mexico’s Latin American & Iberian Institute here (see pages 5-12).
