Calling Local Artists

We’re looking for a Triangle-based artist or team to design, create, and install a metal entryway for the main entrance of the Gene Strowd Community Rose Garden in Chapel Hill. The entryway should complement the garden’s aesthetics, and inspire and invite residents to enter and explore the beautiful and expansive rose garden space.

Artists and artist teams are invited to submit qualifications, and up to three selected finalist / finalist teams will each receive a $200 stipend to submit a proposal.  

SPECIFICATIONS: The entryway should include a 5-6 foot tall gate and an 8 foot tall arbor, connect to bronze-finish aluminum fence sections (to be installed), and accommodate foot traffic, wheelchairs, and strollers. See photos below. 

PROJECT COMMISSION BUDGET: $30,000

DEADLINE: 5 p.m. Thursday, June 30

ELIGIBILITY: Artists must live within 40 miles of Chapel Hill and submit application materials using the directions below.
