Exterior Murals for Homestead Skate Park

We’re looking for a Triangle-based artist or artist team to design and install outdoor murals at the newly reconstructed skate park at Homestead Park in Chapel Hill, North Carolina. The murals will be on two exterior walls of a building, with total areas of 285 square feet and 276 square feet (see dimensions).

The mural design and style should reflect skate culture, and the selected artist(s) will work with ~10 high school students and their art teacher to finalize their design and install the murals.

FINALIST STIPENDS: $750/artist or team

PROJECT STIPEND: $20,000 for the selected artist or team

ELIGIBILITY: Artists and/or artist teams must be 18+, live within 40 miles of Chapel Hill, possess General Liability Insurance, and submit application materials following the specifications listed below.

DEADLINE: 5pm on Thursday, September 24, 2026

Applications should include…

Four (4) digital photos of your mural work:
- Submit 4 photographs of exterior murals you have successfully installed that represent your current style of work and may be relevant to this project.
- Each photo should be approximately 900 pixels (longest dimension) and no larger than 500 KB.
- Submit each photo as a separate .jpg or .png file.
A list providing basic information on each of the murals shown in your photos:
- Submit the list as one single .docx or .pdf file.
- This list should provide the following information for each of the murals shown in your photos and reference the photo’s filename: dimensions (height x width in feet), media, and any other relevant information you would like to share (year completed, budget, and/or installation timeframe).
Resume:
- No more than 2 pages providing artistic resume and mural projects
Application materials will be reviewed by a Selection Team comprising representatives of the Parks & Recreation Department and the local artist and skating communities.

Up to three Finalists will be invited to submit proposals based upon the artistic excellence of their work and mural experience.

Each Finalist will receive a $750 proposal stipend that includes a site visit. The Project Artist/Team will be selected based on their artistic excellence, stylistic relevance to the project, and suitability of their proposal.
