Exterior Murals for Chapel Hill Community Center 2026

We’re looking for a Triangle-based artist or artist team to design and install outdoor murals on two exterior walls at the entrance of the newly-landscaped Chapel Hill Community Center at 120 South Estes Drive. The two mural walls’ total area is 650 square feet.

The mural design is open to artistic interpretation and may address…

  • The Parks & Recreation Department’s themes of Inspire, Create, Preserve
  • The activities and patrons of the Center
  • The surrounding parkland; and/or other concepts

The murals could be realistic or more abstract, and the project should involve opportunities for community input or involvement.

FINALIST STIPENDS: $750/artist or team

PROJECT STIPEND: $24,000 for the selected artist or team

ELIGIBILITY: Artists and/or artist teams must be 18+, live within 40 miles of Chapel Hill, possess General Liability Insurance, and submit application materials following the specifications listed below.

DEADLINE: 5pm on Tuesday, March 31, 2026
