Artistic Gates for Cedar Falls Tennis Courts in Chapel Hill, NC
The Town of Chapel Hill is looking for a North Carolina-based artist or artist team to design, fabricate, and install a set of artistic gates for the newly reconstructed outdoor tennis courts at Cedar Falls Park.

The gates will replace existing black vinyl-coated steel entrance gates (see diagram). The new artistic gates should be the same size as the existing entrance gates, which include two sections that together are 12′ wide x 10′ tall. The new gate design should operate in the same manner as the existing gates, which allows each section to open and close together or separately and be locked. Gates will connect to an existing 10-foot-tall, black vinyl-coated chain-link fence and will serve as the entrance to the six outdoor tennis courts.

- The natural beauty of the wooded Cedar Falls environment
- The reconstruction of the six tennis courts
- The sport of tennis
Materials and gate appearance should aesthetically work with current fencing and require little to no maintenance.
These artistic gates are expected to be completed and installed in spring 2026. This project is a collaboration between Chapel Hill Community Arts & Culture and Chapel Hill Parks & Recreation.
SITE VISIT & PROPOSAL STIPEND: $1,000 per selected Finalist
ALL-INCLUSIVE PROJECT STIPEND: $20,000 for selected Project Artist/Team
ELIGIBILITY: Applicants must be 18+, reside in North Carolina, and submit application materials using the directions below. Selected Finalists will attend a Site Visit in mid-November 2025. Selected Project Artist/Team must carry liability insurance.
