Library Card Design, Chapel Hill Public Library 2026
Pocket-sized public art
Want to get your art into the hands of thousands of people in Orange County? Chapel Hill Public Library is looking for a Triangle-based artist to create an original design for a limited-edition library card. It’s a small format with a big presence: the selected design will be printed on library cards and stickers distributed during the celebration of National Library Card Sign Up Month in September, and beyond.
The chosen design will be produced as:
- 5,000 wallet-sized library cards (3.5×2.25in) printed on biodegradable material
- 1,000 vinyl stickers of the same dimension
The card design is open to artistic interpretation and may address or include…
- The Library’s Mission: “Sparking Curiosity. Inspiring Learning. Creating Connections.”;
- Library programs, services, collections, and the joy of reading;
- Architectural elements of the Library or the surrounding landscape, including Pritchard Park; and/or
- An abstract or more representational design that works well at this relatively small size.
FINALIST STIPENDS: $100/artist
PROJECT STIPEND: $500 for the selected artist
ELIGIBILITY: Artists and/or artist teams must be 18+, live within 40 miles of Chapel Hill, and submit application materials following the specifications listed below.
DEADLINE: 5pm on Monday, May 18, 2026
