900 Willow Street Mural Application

Applications should include:

Four (4) Digital Photos of Your Large-Scale Mural Work:

• Submit (4) photographs of large-scale murals you have designed and successfully installed that represent your current style of work and may be relevant to this project.
• Each photo should be approximately 900 pixels (longest dimension) and no larger than 600 KB.
• Submit each photo as a separate .jpg or .png file.

A List providing basic information on each of the murals shown in your photos:

• Submit this List as one single .docx or .pdf file.
• This List should provide the following information for each of the murals shown in your photos and reference the photo’s filename:
  • Dimensions (height x width in feet)
  • Media
  • Any other relevant information you would like to share (year completed, budget, and/or installation timeframe).

Resume:

No more than 2 pages providing artistic resume and mural projects.

Application materials will be reviewed by a selection team comprising representatives of 900 Willow and the Town of Chapel Hill.  A small number of finalists will be contacted to submit proposals based upon the artistic excellence of their work and large–scale, two dimensional mural experience.  Each finalist will receive a $500 proposal stipend.  The Selection Team will choose one proposal for realization. All federal, state, and local laws, rules, and regulations apply.  Acceptance constitutes consent (except where prohibited) by project artist/team to use his/her/their name, signature, likeness, and biographical data for advertising, media, and promotional purposes without additional compensation. 

Friday, November 17 at 5pm:  Deadline for submission of application materials

Early December 2023:  Applicants contacted with selection results; Finalists contacted

Mid-January 2024:  Site visit held for Finalists

Mid-February 2024:  Finalists submit proposals; Project Artist/Team selected

Spring 2024:  Final Design work and approval by Selection Team

August 2024:  Artwork installed at 900 Willow by Project Artist/Team

The Town of Chapel Hill reserves the right to refuse any or all submissions or works, to refuse any finalist, and to waive informalities in procedures should it be determined that submissions or works are not adequate, or to cancel this RFQ and the associated application process for any reason prior to a written arrangement being reached. 

General Terms and Conditions 

1. Applicants agree to abide by these General Terms and Conditions, which are final on all matters pertaining to this RFQ. By participating, the artist/project team represents and warrants to 900 Willow and the Town of Chapel Hill that they are the sole creator of any art work submitted. The art work submitted for the 900 Willow Art Work must be the original work of the artist/project team; must not have been submitted to another project, promotional event, or for publication; must not have been published previously; must not be obscene or indecent (in the sole opinion of the Town of Chapel Hill and 900 Willow); shall not have a commercial message and must not infringe any third-party rights.  
2. Selection of the artist/project team is personal to the artist/project team and is not transferable. Each artist/project team releases 900 Willow and the Town of Chapel Hill, and each of their affiliates, and their respective directors, officers, employees, and agents from any and all claims, liability, loss, or damage, including any third party claims, arising from or relating to, in whole or in part, this RFQ, use, misuse of, or inability to complete the assignment.  Applicant agrees that if any third party makes a claim for breach of copyright or any other intellectual property right, or any loss or damage arising from artist’s submission, the artist will indemnify 900 Willow and the Town of Chapel Hill, and each of their affiliates, and their respective directors, officers, employees and agents from any and all such claims, including reasonable attorneys’ fees related thereto.  
3. Due care and diligence has been exercised in preparation of this RFQ and all information contained herein is believed to be substantially correct; however, the responsibility for determining the full extent of the requested services rests solely with those making proposals. 
4. All applications must be complete upon submission.  Neither the Town of Chapel Hill nor 900 Willow will be required to contact any or all applicants after submittal in order to obtain supplemental information and/or clarification in either verbal or written form. 
5. The artist and/or project team selected will be expected to execute a Contract for Professional Services.  Upon contract execution, the artist/project team will be required to provide a drawing and written detailed plan with timeline based on the proposal presented. The time frame and installation/construction requirements will be negotiated between the artist and/or artist’s team and 900 Willow’s representatives.   
6. The artist/project team selected must provide commercial general liability insurance and workers’ compensation in the minimum amount of $2,000,000 naming the Town of Chapel Hill and 900 Willow as additional insureds.  In the event the artist does not have this coverage, the Project Budget / Stipend will be reduced by the cost to obtain this coverage.
