ARTISTS IN RESIDENCE: GUY B. PHILLIPS MIDDLE SCHOOL

In 2003 the Artist in Residence program brought professional visual artists Clay Carmichael to the 7th and 8th grade students at Guy B Phillips Middle School to create original works for the Chapel Hill Transit buses.  Using recycled advertising bus cards, the students collaborated with the artist over several weeks to explore the theme of "Heroes and Heroines".  Following the residency, hundreds of bus cards were placed into the overhead bays of the public buses for several months, during which time more than 5,000,000 riders experienced these works.
