UPCOMING PROJECTSChapel Hill Public Library Expansion The upcoming expansion of the Chapel Hill Public Library will include a piece of public art in accordance with the Town's Percent For Art Ordinance. In 2006 acclaimed public artist Janet Echelman was awarded the project commission by Town Council. Echelman was selected from a pool of applicants who were reviewed and interviewed by an Artist Selection Committee comprising two representatives from the Chapel Hill Town Council, two representatives from the Library Board of Trustees, a representative from the Parks and Recreation Commission, a representative from the Manager’s Office, a representative from the Library staff and two representatives from the Chapel Hill Public Arts Commission. In August of 2008 the artist and the Town executed a contract for this project. The artist will develop designs for an artwork for the interior of the expanded Library, which will be reviewed by a Public Art Review Committee consisting of members of Town Council, Manager's Office, and the project architectural firm, and representatives from the Library, the Parks and Recreation and Public Works Departments, and the Public Arts Commission. |
